Best Food Markets Around The World

Updated: Apr 13, 2021

For me, travelling in certain destination is not only discoverng cultures, learning language, meeting people, visiting historical places but tasting local cuisine. The first thing I would check is where is the finest restaurant and where can I enjoy local food & drinks. Last but not least, where is the fresh market. As we go through on my journey, let me share you the BEST markets I have ever visited.

LA BOQUERIA- BARCELONA

My last visit in La-Boqueria was in September 2018. My total madness in all the stuff and food in this extraordinary market is so enormous that I couldn't get enough. The Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, often simply referred to as La Boqueria, is a large public market in the Ciudad Vieja district of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, and one of the city's foremost tourist landmarks, with an entrance from La Rambla, not far from the Liceo, Barcelona's opera house. La Boqueria is no doubt one of Barcelona's most famous tourist attractions for some simple reasons: the fresh ingredients and cooked foods available are impressive and it's a culinary icon of Barcelona. Here you can find dried hams or Jamon as it is known here. The La- Boqueria Food Market is a must-see during a trip to Barcelona. Specialist stalls selling many and varied options of olives, seafood, fruit, meats, cheeses and much more are all on offer.

THAILAND

A must destination for backpackers and tropical beach lovers. Thailand is a country with an interesting culture. With an array of islands sprinkled along the south coast, there is plenty of sand and sea to see! Think crystal blue water, towering palm trees and plenty of activities to last a lifetime, this is the perfect choice for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway, a non-stop adventure or a cheap holiday.

I am pretty sure that you have seen travel inspiring photos of beautiful white sand, lush green cliffs and clear turquoise water of those lovely islands. In Phuket, Kata Beach is a beauty, lined with palm trees and great restaurants. And between May and October, the sea is perfect for surf lovers. One of the more famous coasts, Railay Beach in Krabi, is ideal for families with its shallow coasts and super soft sand, while also being perfectly visible! Lamai Beach in Koh Samui, Lamai Beach is a quiet stretch of coast, but still with lots of local amenities nearby. If you are looking for a picturesque beach just a short walk from a bustling village, then Nang Thong Beach in Khao Lak is the perfect place for you.

But then, let me inspire you the Thai's perfectness in terms of food. Thai cuisine is aromatic and is usually served with rice or noodles. A popular dish is Pad Thai, with stir-fried noodles with egg, tofu, shrimp, aromas and roasted peanuts. Tom yam is another famous Thai dish, a hot and sour soup with shrimp. Massaman curry and green curry are both a must-try meal. These dishes have the basic ingredients of coconut milk, palm sugar and fish sauce. If you feel adventurous, Thailand is also known for its consumption of insects, including fried grasshoppers and crickets.
