Travelling with the corona certificate ?

While the world starts opening its door; it is time for me to recommend and start to guide / help you to open and seek new horizons that are waiting for you, your family and friends. Starting July 1, the digital corona certificate allows you to travel freely within the European Union and to Schengen countries.

Have you been vaccinated? Negatively tested for corona? Or recovered from a corona infection? How does the digital corona certificate work?

The digital corona certificate is a QR code on your smartphone. That QR code will be scanned at check-in before your flight at Schiphol. The person who checks the QR code will then see a green screen if you if;

  • have been vaccinated or

  • have recently tested negative or

  • have recently had corona

With your airline you can check whether you can use the corona certificate on your mobile or in print for your flight. See picture.

CoronaCheck app

In the Netherlands, the digital corona certificate is part of the CoronaCheck app. You can read all about this on coronacheck.nl. Here is also how you can use your DigiD to put your data about your vaccination, your negative test statement or your proof that you have recovered from corona in the app. It then generates the unique QR code. Would you rather have a printed QR code? This can also be done through coronacheck.nl.

Travel within the EU (European Union)

As of 1 July 2021, the digital corona certificate (QR code) is valid in all countries of the European Union. This allows you to travel freely to EU destinations and Schengen countries such as Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. However, different requirements for testing and quarantine can still be imposed per country. You also always need a completed health declaration for your trip. Check what applies to your destination on Nederlandwereldwijd.nl.

Face masks remain mandatory at Schiphol Airport

Despite the softening in the Dutch corona measures, wearing a face mask remains mandatory at Schiphol Airport. So put on your face mask as soon as you enter the airport, thank you!

Free corona test in July and August

Do you fly from Schiphol airport in July or August? And do you need a negative COVID test statement for your destination? Then you can get tested for free at any test location recommended by the government. Make an appointment via testenvoorjereis.nl 5 days before departure. This also applies to foreign travelers travelling from the Netherlands to another country.

Which countries are Schengen countries?

There are 26 European countries that fall under the Schengen area. These are the so-called Schengen countries. Within these countries, you are allowed to travel freely as a resident of the European Union (EU). The control of persons takes place at the external borders of the Schengen area.
