Not only travelling alone, sometimes with groups, by train or by plane and note... I do really love taking holidays by car. Discovering places with my own tempo. Sightseeing and driving along the country sides is one of my simplest goal in terms of discovering holiday destinations and digging up its cultures.
I want to share with you my unforgettable -awesome experience during my road trip to nearby countries of the Netherlands. I would say, such holidays by car were not so complicated, in fact, very exciting and much affordable.

You have the choice to stay close to home and celebrate your holiday in the Netherlands or to cross the border to our neighbors Belgium and Germany. In a stunning location called Brig, a 3stars Hotel Good Night Inn which you are welcome for a seven (7) nights stay with breakfast, an excellent base from which to explore the highest peaks in Europe. Quietly located in the center of Brig, this hotel features a restaurant, bar, hair salon and elevator. The modern rooms are all equipped with a TV, telephone, safe and a bathroom with bath or shower, toilet and hairdryer. Wifi is free in this hotel.
Switzerland and trains are inextricably linked. The Glacier Express is one of the most beautiful train journeys in the world with spectacular views of snowy mountains and valleys. Get to know the charm of the eternally snowy Matterhorn Mountain, with an altitude of almost 4,500 meters. From Täsch you can take the train to the car-free Zermatt with typical wooden houses. You can enjoy shopping or continue the journey by cog railway to the 3,089 meter high Gornergrat. The Aletsch Glacier, its surroundings and the mountains behind it have been designated as natural heritage by UNESCO.

BRIG
You will be staying in Brig during this car holiday. Brig's history is closely linked to the Simplon Pass, one of the most beautiful Alpine passes, which begins right in front of the gates of the city. The beautiful old town with patrician houses and cozy cafes invites you to stay. The Stockalper Palace is also worth a visit. The palace is one of Switzerland's most important Baroque palace building works.
Tips and Activities:
One of the highlights: an unforgettable train journey in the wake of the Glacier Express. From a (panoramic) wagon you can enjoy the impressive Swiss Alpine landscape. The train winds along steep rocks and climbs over the more than 2,000 meter high Oberalp pass. You pass Andermatt, also called the roof of Europe, and end in Disentis. From Disentis, the train returns to Brig. This way you won't miss out on the beautiful nature and the beautiful views of snowy mountains and valleys.
Train Täsch - Zermatt and Matterhorn :
Here, you can discover the impressive beauty of the eternally snowy Matterhorn mountain, with an altitude of almost 4,500 meters. Via an amazing route with stunning views of the snowy peaks you drive to Täsch. The last kilometers you can continue with a train to Zermatt. In the car-free Zermatt with typical wooden houses you can shop, enjoy beautiful views or go by cog railway to the 3,089 meter high Gornergrat.

Saas-Fee and Lötschental:
Saas-Fee is a charming place, beautifully located on the Fee glacier around which the Alpine giants rise. The visit to Saas-Fee is nice to combine with the Lötschental. The Lötschental is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is surrounded by mountain giants with glaciers. In the valley there are a number of authentic villages. In Kippel the houses and old wooden barns are decorated with a lot of carvings.
Aletsch Glacier, Grimselpass and Rhone Glacier:
An impressive view of a giant glacier, that's what you can expect from the excursion to the Aletsch Glacier. This glacier, its surroundings and the mountains behind it have been designated by UNESCO as world natural heritage. First of all, drive to the mountain village of Fiesch. From here you can take a gondola lift* to the Fischeralp and then a cabin lift to the Eggishorn. From approximately 3,000 meters you have a fantastic view of the glacier. Via a beautiful route, following the Rhône, you can go to the Grimselpass. Here you have a beautiful view of the Rhone Glacier, the origin of the Rhône.
Montreux, Chillon Castle and Lake Geneva Boat Tour:
Montreux can be described as a stylish, elegant city. The location on Lake Geneva, surrounded by vineyards, guarantees plenty of sun. There is a vibrant nightlife with Switzerland's oldest casino. In the center of the city, architecture from the 'Belle Époque' and modern buildings alternate. The mild climate and atmosphere in Montreux and neighbouring Vevey are the reason that this region is often referred to as the 'Swiss Riviera'. Just outside Montreux is the Chateau de Chillon, beautiful on a rock right on the lake. The castle has beautiful murals from the 14th century. You can visit the underground vaults, the parade halls and the bedroom preserved in its original state from the time of Bernese rule. The entire complex consists of 25 buildings and three courtyards, surrounded by two ring walls. A boat trip on the lake should not be missed either.
Simplon Pass and Lago Maggiore:
Via a magnificent route on the Simplon Pass you can make a wonderful excursion to Lake Maggiore in Italy. You also have the possibility to take the entire route from Brig by train to Lake Maggiore, and visit the beautiful town of Stresa located on the shores of the lake. Get to know this beautiful cozy city or visit the flower island of Isola Bella and the associated castle of the Borromeo family. Things to do here !
